Xander,
12 years ago we were searching for our first English Bulldog, and we were so happy when a breeder called us from her hobby farm in the tiny town of Vittoria. She said that she had a “Golden boy” for us, but we had to get there fast. We left right away to pick you up, and you were the most beautiful bulldog puppy in the litter with your golden brindle and white markings and your one blue eye.
Since that day we have felt so lucky to have you in our lives. You were so calm all the time that you helped us both relax when our lives were stressful. Mommy loved to come home from school to hear you calmly snoring in our bedroom (usually in a pile of blankets in our walk in closet). We chose our house because we knew you would love its big bright master bedroom overlooking an elm tree, and cushy stairs for you to walk up. When you could no longer walk up the stairs, Daddy loved to carry you up and down.
You also gave us comic relief when we were stressed out or upset. Everyone still laughs about you growling at feet and growling to yourself in your nest of blankets. You always had a concerned look on your face when I was upset, and I know that you wouldn’t want us to be upset now.
We wanted to give you the best life possible, and of course spoiled you with all the treats you loved like tuna, roast beef, timbits, ice cream, and Benny Bullys. We cranked up the air conditioning in the spring, summer, and fall, and always had the temperature icey cold for you. If we didn’t have it on, you would look at the vent and want us to turn it on immediately.
Although you were not an “outdoorsy” dog, we took you camping for 6 summers. One of our funniest memories is from the first time we took you camping. We let you out of the car onto the campsite and you took one look at it, and went running back to the car. You did however enjoy sitting under the picnic table in a pile of blankets. One of mommy’s favorite memories from camping was sitting with you bum to bum on the beach at Presquile park. I also loved sitting with you in the lounge chair in the summer.
We will miss you so much on the holidays. We would put you in a different Halloween costume every year, and you didn’t seem to mind at all. You also liked sitting by the Christmas tree or fireplace at Grandma’s for your annual picture with antlers or a Santa hat. Your birthday on February 18 was such a big deal that Mommy spent weeks planning your themed party and ordering a cake (usually from Dairy Queen).
You were such a gentle and loving dog, and you put up with a lot having 2 crazy boxer sisters—Alexa & Addison. It is so difficult to go up to the bedroom now and not hear your lulling snore, and to not hear it while we sleep at night. We miss you so much, but we know that you’re at peace and are in heaven with your big sister Alexa. We love you, and you will always be in our hearts.
Love: Mommy & Daddy
