Blackberry Scott

Jul, 2002 — Sat, Mar 04, 2017

Blackberry Blossom came into our lives in the summer of 2003. My wife and I adopted Blackberry from the Heartland Humane Society in Corvallis, Oregon. She was the perfect addition to our active lifestyle. Blackberry spent her first years traversing all over central Oregon, a faithful field companion to Mariek who spent days at a time in the Cascade mountains camping and doing field work.

I took Blackberry on long hikes through Willamette Park and I did countless trail runs with her. All told we have most certainly traveled thousands of miles together by foot. She loved to swim and fetch and roll in the snow. She was most at home in the woods and in the water.

Fourteen years is an incredible amount of time to spend with a dog, and at the same time not nearly enough. As any pet owner knows it is both wonderful and difficult to watch our pets progress through life. A once young pup becomes a senior citizen in just 10 short years. I will always admire Blackberry's perseverance. Just days before she passed she was running around the park, enthusiastically splashing in puddles with her brother Django. She was sore, rickety, and tired quickly in her last years, but her enthusiasm for being outdoors never wavered. In August she travelled with us to the Bruce Peninsula and did several days of short but rugged day hikes followed by cool dips in Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.

She was a gentle dog who loved children and was a loving friend to our young daughter, Amity.

Thank you, Blackberry Blossom, for 14 years of friendship, 14 years of walks in the woods, and 14 years of unconditional love. We will miss you and cherish your memory forever.
