Benji Clarke

Mon, Nov 19, 2001 — Sun, May 24, 2015

On Sunday May 18th, 2003, I (Donalee) had injured my foot. I felt miserable and my hubby Wayne said "Let's go to the Toronto Humane Society and see the dogs, that will cheer you up". Well we weren't there two minutes and I saw Benji, in a crate just laying there. His paperwork said he had been found, abandoned in a car. He was one and half years old.
Benji lifted his head and looked at me with those eyes of his and that was it, I grabbed the adoption papers to fill out immediately!!! My hubby said "can we talk about this?" and I said "we just did".
100% true story!!!!

We then found out the adoptions were over for that day as it was late afternoon. They said we cannot hold him for you but if you come back when we open first thing tomorrow morning at
10:00 am, you have a chance of adopting him, if someone doesn't beat you to it. We were there at 8:00 am, two hours before the Humane Society opened and first in line!!! I knew in my heart that Benji was to be our doggie!!! The doors opened at 10:00 am and we ran full speed to the adoption area to adopt our Benji, he was ours!!!
As we were leaving with Benji, a man came up to us in the parking lot and said "we saw that dog yesterday and my wife said to come back and get him. I am guess I am too late"
There was no question in our hearts that Benji was meant to be adopted by us that day, Monday May 19th, 2003.

Life with Benji was full of joy filled moments and huge blessings. He was the sweetest, kindest dog we had ever met. He had such a gentle soul. You could see it in his eyes, so soulful.
After about a year, Benji seemed sad. He would just sit on top of the couch and look out the window at the at the leaves falling and just sigh. It was time for a companion for Benji. We soon adopted Toto and they just played and played and played together, perfect match!!! In 2007, we adopted Princess and our fur-family was complete. Benji, Toto and Princess ate together, slept together, played together and loved each other very much.

Our hearts are broken, our family of five is now four and we are devastated by the loss of our Benji.
When we look back, we clearly know that is was God inspired that we adopted Benji.
I (Donalee) had never had a boy dog before, always girl dogs. So I would say to Benji "You are the BEST boy dog Mommy ever had" and Benji would say "Mom, I am the ONLY boy dog you ever had ~ HA!!!"

I cannot even believe I am writing Benji's Life Story. Heartbroken does not begin to describe how we feel. Benji you were the BEST DOGGIE EVER and we love you so much. We pray you are free of pain and running and playing over the Rainbow Bridge. Thank you God for giving us Benji in our lives.

Our dear, sweet Benji has gone over the Rainbow Bridge on Sunday May 24th, 2015.
He was surrounded by the love of his Mommy (Donalee), his Daddy (Wayne) and his fur-sisters,
Toto and Princess. You are forever in our hearts Benji, we love you and miss you very, very much.
Benji, we will see you again one day in Heaven,
Love Mommy, Daddy, Toto and Princess xoxo
